“ … There has been some reduction in general pain but more importantly (as there is no cure for the fibromyalgia) I have learnt how to listen to my body and so manage my pain more effectively.”
Cherie Scadden, Dunedin, December 21

“I've finally re-started doing morning meditation practice. The setting of a 'goal' phrase for the yoga nidra I've found challenging - it's made me think though what I do want to be heading towards.”

Move - Asana
Yoga aims to balance body and mind. I teach physical practices (yoga asana) to release tensions, mobilise the joints and bring awareness to how the body feels from the inside out - rather than focusing on how it looks from the outside.
Awareness and Curiosity are the key.
You are invited to pay attention to the breath and be curious how your body feels when moving or holding a position.
You will be supported in fine-tuning or adapting each of the practices so they suit your ability and physique.
With time, the quality of movement and awareness will change and expand. Your energy will flow more freely, and the joints will feel more nourished and ‘oiled’ from the inside out. :)
Breathe - Pranayma
The breath is our most powerful ally, but unfortunately, we are rarely aware of it.
With regular practice you will become more attuned to the way you breathe and how you can use the breath to stay balanced, relaxed and grounded.
The practice of yogic breathing, named pranayama, aims to harness and increase your vital life force. Prana = life force or shakti and yama = control of.
You will be introduced to the practices of pranayama in a methodical and systematic way. Consistency and patience are the key ingredients for a successful and safe practice. The power of prana should never be underestimated.
Did you know?
Exhaling slowly activates the relaxation response in the mind-body system and instantly calms our nervous system, reducing stress and anxiety.
A few rounds of deep breathing into the thoracic area (ribcage), on the other hand, enlivens our system, improving focus and concentration.
Relax the Mind - Meditation
Relaxation and meditation practices are tools that, with appropriate guidance, can be learned by everyone, even the most restless or busy-minded person.
I teach mindfulness, a variety of meditation techniques including yoga nidra, a progressive relaxation meditation.
Uschi’s personal journey with yoga
I’ve been practicing yoga for 30 years and teaching for 20. Yoga has been my anchor and inspiration.
From 2000 - 2016, I immersed myself into yogic life and tradition, took initiations and accepted a guru. I felt deeply nourished and inspired; it was like a home-coming for me. I studied, engaged in karma yoga (seva) and participated in ancient yogic rituals. It was an enriching time that I am immensely grateful for. However, I left the lineage I was initiated into (Satyananda Yoga) in 2016, for personal reasons and due to lack of trust in the integrity of its leaders.
The last four years have been a time of deep soul searching, processing and integration of my personal experiences and learning. I am again at a place of inner peace and excited about sharing the wonderful practices that have given me and many of my students so much in the way of physical and mental wellbeing, grounding, personal growth, and softening of mind and heart.
